MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Inc. is actively recruiting for a full-time Registered Nurse to join our team and support the needs of the Emergency Department. Patient focused care with commitment to customer service, collaboration and team work is a must. This position will provide support during night shift hours (7:00pm ? 7:30am).
Job Summary
Deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with established hospital standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred
Current Maryland and compact nursing license, and in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing
Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS
Obtain CPI and Base Station Certification within 6 months of hire

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
Performs triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements.
Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.
Initiates appropriate procedure when identifies equipment malfunctions.
Records patients vital signs as indicated.
Works collaboratively with physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments.
Prepares, administers and records prescribed medications.
Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
Initiates IVs.
Cleans and bandages wounds.
Provides basic, bedside care.
Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.
Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies.
Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation.
Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Performs other position related duties as assigned.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
