Job SummaryProvides one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of identifying behaviors which are potentially hazardous to self or others.
Minimum QualificationsEducation/ExperienceEducationHigh school graduate or equivalent.
Preferred QualificationsThree (3) months of related experience preferredPrimary Duties and ResponsibilitiesContributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Uses safety measures for patient and self in accordance with protocol.
Performs direct observation of patients for the purpose of identification of behaviors that are potentially hazardous to self or others and reports such observations to appropriate personnel in appropriate time frame.
Communicates with patients and encourages casual patient verbalization.
Participates in minor diversion activities, such as reading to the patient.
Assists unit staff in preventing patients from climbing out of bed by providing appropriate diversion activities.
Remains attentive to the patient at all times, unless relieved of duty by the patient care staff.
Documents patient activity in electronic health record as appropriate.
Notifies unit staff if verbal reminders and diversion are unsuccessful in distracting patient.
Escalates patient and safety concerns to RN and Nurse Techs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working ConditionsExposure to patients, visitors and family members with a variety of physical and psychiatric/mental health conditions.
Potential for exposure to contagious diseases, blood and body fluids, chemicals, medicinal preparations, potential ionizing radiation, unpleasant odors, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
Mandatory requirement for use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when indicated per policy.
Position may require flexible scheduling, off-shifts, weekend, holiday, on-call and/or overtime hours of work in accordance with department policy or procedures.
Physical RequirementsVisual acuity including color vision.
Ability to hear and orally communicate.
Ability to read, comprehend, and write English language.
Manual dexterityPhysical mobility with ability to lift, push or pull up to and including 35 lbs.
Walking, standing, sitting for prolonged periods.
Handling of patients including lifts, rolls, transfers, etc.
with the use of mandatory Safe Patient Lifting Equipment.
Ability to perform CPR and respond to emergency situations including potential takedowns or restraints.
Ability to appropriately wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
